Environment Minister Greg Hunt and Prime Minister Tony Abbott have requested that UNESCO committee to remove the wold heritage protection of Tasmania's old-growth forest that were approved for world heritage listing in June last year, to enable logging.
This is unprecedented. No government has ever tried to delist a world heritage site when it is still intact. It is extremely embarrassing internationally. There is no future in logging, but there is one in tourism.
Its a catastrophe for this magnificent natural wilderness.
